Welcome to LUIPERDKLOOF TROUT LODGE, located near Utrecht in northern Kwazulu-Natal. This beautiful area, with climate similar to Dullstroom in Mpumalanga and Clarens in the Free State, is yet rather undiscovered – you could be the one to tell your friends about this "new" destination!

Whether you're a birdwatcher, golfer, hiker, fly-fisherman, history or architecture enthusiast, the area offers something for everyone. And if you're not interested in any activity and just want to get away from it all, come recharge your batteries...

LUIPERDKLOOF is a working 1264-hectare farm, with cattle, a few horses, chickens and sheep, yet, due to the mountainous terrain and climate, the season is too short for most commercial crops. This resulted in the preservation of near pristine grasslands.

Most importantly, the farm is listed as SA NATIONAL HERITAGE PROGRAMME SITE No 47, because of 5 very rare plant and bird species that occur here, namely:

  • Yellowwood trees in the indigenous forests

  • Christmas Bell (a beautiful veld flower)

  • Elephant's Foot

  • Bald Ibis

  • And perhaps you could be lucky enough to glimpse the secretive leopard to which the name of the farm refers!
